Car Sharing Without the Hassle

With car sharing you don’t have to worry about constantly giving lifts. All you need is short term insurance which is now easy to get.

by Louise Thomas

Any car owner or doting parent will know the annoyance of people demanding lifts. You don’t want to seem rude, but you can’t help but feel frustrated at having to give lifts left, right and centre. However, we have a solution that benefits both the car owner, and those who need to get from A to B.

Giving lifts is a pain

When you go shopping for a new set of wheels, you don’t usually imagine yourself becoming a taxi service, but that often happens. You have paid for the car, insurance, petrol and maintenance. However, that doesn’t stop you from being called upon when someone needs a ride. Whether your friend wants a lift to a party, or your teenager to town, you’re always on call. It’s hard to say no without feeling mean, no even if the lift-demander can drive.

Lift-giving is definitely a delicate subject. If you ask for too much petrol money, you could get accused of running a taxi service, invalidating your insurance. Also, once you start offering lifts it’s pretty difficult to stop.  You can find yourself spending more money on running your car than you had expected.

Car sharing solution

If those in need of the lift can drive, you can put an end to the constant toing and froing. They can insure themselves for as little as 1 hour, a day or even a whole month! Now, if you know your schedule is looking full with lift-giving, you can hand over the keys safe in the knowledge that they’re fully covered. You can relax and get on with your day while they get themselves to where they need to be.

It’s usually more cost effective than insuring someone for a year if they’ll only need the car occasionally. Plus, you don’t have to worry about any accidents affecting your No Claims Bonus. What’s more, if someone borrows your (or anyone else’s) car for more than 30 days, they can earn their own No Claims Bonus. You’ll be helping a friend out in more than one way!

The other big plus of Temporary Car Insurance is that it is on-demand.  You can take out instant cover so the temporary driver is good to go in minutes.  So if something comes up in the calendar that you’re not prepared for, you can fall back on this handy insurance cover.

Who could benefit from this insurance?

This list goes on and on. From students who are home from university and in need of a car for a month, to housemates who want to get across the country to see friends or family. Basically, anyone who could do with a car on a short term basis benefits from Car Sharing Insurance.

It’s not just the person in need of a lift who gains. You no longer need to give lifts, giving you back lots of time. Plus, you can actually receive lifts. When someone else can cover themselves to drive your car, there’s no reason why you have to always be the driver. You could share petrol and maintenance costs to cover the time both of you are using the car too!
