Learning to Drive Checklist

Do you have everything you need to start learning to drive?

by Louise Thomas

Learning to drive is an exciting and sometimes stressful time, and it’s easy to forget things. Here is our checklist of everything you need to remember before you embark on your journey:

1. Apply for a your provisional licence

You can’t get behind the wheel without one but luckily it’s easy to apply for your provisional licence online.

2. Get an eye test

If you can’t read a number plate from 20 metres you’ll need to make sure you’re wearing corrective lenses every time you’re in the driver’s seat.

3. Find the right instructor

You’ll be spending a lot of time with your instructor so make sure they have great reviews and are an Approved Driving Instructor.

4. Book and revise for your theory test

You need to pass your theory before you can book your practical driving test. Make sure you make the most of the resources and apps available to help you prepare.

5. Book your practical test in advance

The waiting list can be several weeks or even months long, so it’s important to book your test as soon as you and your instructor feel you might be ready. You can book check test availability and book yours online.

6. Find a friend or family remember to practice with

Although most of your driving knowledge will come from your instructor it’s important to get as much on road experience as possible before your test. Practice with a friend or family member with Learner Driver Insurance to help build your confidence behind the wheel.

Good luck from everyone at Veygo!

Hi I'm Louise and I'm a Marketing Executive at Veygo. I've been driving for nearly two years after several "practice" tests! I love the freedom that comes with finally having a driving licence. Road trips with my friends are the best - especially when we've got an awesome playlist going! (check out our Spotify for road trip playlists!)
